Following NATO’s decision to end its Libya operation on Monday 31st October, the UK’s Royal Air force (RAF) has this weekend started to move its 2,300 personnel back to Britain and the first of its Tornado fighter aircraft left their base in Italy on Friday.
Altogether British aircraft flew 8,000 hours in support of Operation Unified Protector, using 32 aircraft and 4 ships. 3,000 sorties were flown in 7 months, with 640 confirmed strikes.
