France reopens Tripoli embassy

August 29, 2011

France reopened its embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli today after it had been closed for the last six months, a foreign ministry spokesman said.
“Our embassy in Tripoli has reopened today,” Bernard Valero said in a press briefing.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maltese embassy in Tripoli was never closed, but it was manned by locally-engaged staff over the past few months.
A decision on the return of the Maltese staff will be taken as the situation in Tripoli improves.
Malta, however, intends to keep open a liaison office set up two months ago in Benghazi.
