Outside Sirte, Opposition forces said yesterday afternoon that they had captured a strategic area from Gaddafi’s forces known as the “Red Valley”, 60 kilometres to the east of the city.
The Red Valley was seen as a key Gaddafi line of defence and Opposition forces are now progressing kilometre by kilometre towards the city itself, which they have undertaken not to attack until after the deadline for surrender has passed on Saturday.
