The NTC called a 2 day truce on Friday in order to allow civilian families to escape the fighting within Sirte and their fighters attempted to leave a safe corridor open as NATO showered the town with leaflets urging people to flee.
However, shell and rocket fire continued yesterday, Saturday, and one family of four were killed by machine gun fire as they tried to leave the town.
The bodies of the 2 adults and 2 children were taken to a field hospital outside Sirte and while it was unclear which side was responsible for the deaths, they are believed to have been fired upon from within Sirte as they drove towards NTC positions. -more...
