Cairo (CNN) -- Protesters gathered around Egypt on Friday for several planned demonstrations after days of clashes with riot police that left dozens dead and thousands injured.
The protests planned for Cairo's Tahrir Square have been dubbed "last chance," implying the military leadership does not have much time to give into demands.
The area around Cairo's Tahrir Square was eerily calm as protesters gathered nearby, but there were no clashes.
Protesters have clashed with police since Saturday near the Cairo square, the epicenter of the movement that led to Hosni Mubarak's ouster as president nine months ago. Among other demands, they have called for the interim military rulers to step down.
But the situation seemed to calm down Thursday after soldiers erected barbed wire barricades to separate protesters from police.
Later Friday, there are several planned events that could bring large crowds to Cairo and other areas in Egypt.
