The 69th Venice Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world, is under way.
Several of this year's films have been inspired by recent conflicts in the Arab world.
Director Ibrahim El Batout's film "Winter of Discontent," on Egyptian uprising has been billed as a message of hope.
The film portrays the uprising as both dark and uplifting.
Al Jazeera's Suranjana Tewari reports.
