The spot, airing in six battleground states, says Romney's plan will lead to tax cuts for "multimillionaires like himself," and higher taxes for the middle class.
"Romney hits the middle class harder and gives millionaires an even bigger break," says the ad. "Is that the way forward for America?"
Obama and the Democrats are expected to hit many of these same things this week at their convention in Charlotte, N.C.
The president scheduled to formally accept his party's re-nomination on Thursday.
Romney and aides said their tax cutting plans will revive an economy that remains stagnant on Obama's watch, including an unemployment rate of over 8%.
After nearly four years of the Obama presidency, "the middle class isn't better off, with declining incomes, fewer good-paying jobs, and families struggling to make ends meet," said Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul.
President Obama's latest television ad is running in six states, any of which could decide the Nov. 6 election: Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia.
