WHILE POLITICIANS, DIPLOMATS AND THE POPE BURBLE ON, FSA APPEARS TO BE MAKING SIGNIFICANT GAINS:
TIMELINE – 15th SEPTEMBER 2012 12.25 GMT:
While the new UN special envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, finally got to meet President Assad this morning, Saturday, no statement was issued afterwards and little progress is anticipated in a situation which Brahimi has described himself as a job that is “nearly impossible”.

Pope Arrives in Lebanon
The Pope duely arrived in Lebanon yesterday as tensions across the Middle East and Africa flared after the fundamentalist reaction to the extreme anti-Islamic film released in America spread to new areas.
The Pope described all religious fundamentalism as “a falsification of religion”.
He also described the supply of weapons to Syria as a “grave sin” and called for “peace and reconciliation”.
Meanwhile the battles across Syria continue to rage and activist groups reported as many as 160 killed Friday. The Assad Government shelling of the districts of Hajar Aswad and Al-Madaniya in Damascus has resumed and there were earlier reports of 16 killed in the Yarmouk neighbourhood, 11 of them Palestinians from  the refugee camp.
The bombardment of Al-Bab north of Aleppo with non-stop jet attacks continues, with 6 reported dead and as many as 50 wounded.  Assad’s forces also continue to relentlessly pound the FSA held town of Rastan near Homs, causing many injuries.

Helicopter Attack on Aleppo
Numerous reports from Aleppo, but all of them unconfirmed, seem to indicate that the FSA continues to make progress.
“Significant advances” are reported in Salaheddine, pushing Assad’s troops back past the point where they started their “big offensive” against the “Terrorists” a month ago.
There are also reports that most of the Midan area has been liberated by the FSA and they are now in the Jabriyeh Distict.
In addition there are reports of large FSA operations against the Menagh military airfield 30 kilometres north of Aleppo, where many of Assad’s attack helicopters are based, and at Aleppo airport, which also houses a military base, nearer the city.
