Steve Nash trade rumors have popped up and a possible Indiana Pacers trade with theLA Lakers could be on the horizon. A report from ESPN (Feb. 19) even suggests a deal that sends Nash and other pieces to the Pacers in exchange for Danny Granger and George Hill. Coming into the action on Tuesday, Nash is averaging 32.9 minutes, 11.8 points, and 7.4 assists per game in his first season with the Lakers. Those aren't the best numbers, but he has had to defer some responsibilities to Kobe Bryant.
This would be a great trade for fantasy basketball owners, because it would suddenly give Nash a lot more freedom at the point guard slot. Any trade that sends Nash to another contender would improve his outlook for the rest of the season and likely end with him averaging double-digit assists per game. That he is appearing in trade rumors is simply a result of how badly the Lakers have played in the first half of the season.
For the Pacers, giving up players like Granger and Hill might hurt, but if the team got back another asset with Nash it might be worth doing. Having Nash on the court with Paul George and Roy Hibbert could only help their two star players get even better. One thing worth mentioning here, though, is that ESPN's Tom Haberstroh was talking about Metta World Peace heading to Indiana in the trade. Due to his past in Indiana, that doesn't seem like a very likely scenario.
