A fighter plane F-16 involved in operations in Libya crashed Wednesday during a landing on the base of Sigonella, Sicily, told AFP an official at Nato."The pilot ejected and his condition is being evaluated," the official said on condition of anonymity.

The device, which was not on duty, was Decimomannu Base, Sardinia, to that of Sigonella, Sicily, he said, while declining to give further details immediately.

According to Italian news agency Ansa, the crash of the aircraft, which would be Emirates, led to the temporary closure of the base. This aircraft was normally based in Decimomannu, Sardinia, in the deployment of 12 hunters from the UAE to enforce no-fly zone in Libya, according to Ansa.
