@LibyansWB on Twitter, Pro-Gaddafi or Not?
Here is a group of folks claiming to be anti-Gaddafi who, at the same time, have been very subtly, or discretely, pro-Gaddafi.They repeat all the right information, but when it comes to key issues that have been common causes for all free Libyans, @LibyansWB has tried to counter,or refute, that effort by injecting with what is effectively the Gaddafi government’s position. Examples of this include:- The fact that they have internet in Tripoli, when everyone else in Tripoli has been cut off since March 3/4 is suspicious and
that they fail to acknowledge or explain this is even more telling and obvious- I’ve heard numerous people online tell people to be wary of these guys who have both Twitter and Facebook accounts:
LibyansWB:- Lots of reports of them pumping Saif’s fake libyan tv station (anyone with info on that please followup with that)
and messaging people in Tripoli asking them for their names and numbers! Here is just a week’s or so worth of tweets from them:I’ve filtered out the rehashed ‘anti-gaddafi’ tweets and picked out the ones where they take a stance. All this stuff they’re tweeting is while people are being killed in many cities throught Libya.I’ve not looked at their Facebook page, which might have even more incriminating stuff.Examples of fishy, pro-Gaddafi government tweets:- Claims Libyans in Tripoli resent the NATO strike:
- Claims people are getting annoyed about the bombing:
- Against recognizing the NTC, a vague threat of millions to be killed by Gaddafi upon recognition:
- Various attempts to get people to contact them directly, potentially revealing their names, also registering those people in Tripoli
- Presents a false segmentation of the libyan people, implying those against gaddafi have no desire for security
- Against removal of state tv, going as far as to claim that since so many watch it, we should keep it on air:
- Claims to confirm ‘tribes’ going to benghazi, which was a gaddafi ruse:
- Against arming thowar (the rebels):
- Against NATO targeting Gaddafi Militias:
- Asking for daytime attacks from NATO, this only helps Gaddafi’s guys aim at planes, claims Libyans are ‘tired’ of them and resentful
- Against attacking of Gaddafi communication infrastructure:
- Unsourced quoting of “senior libyan official” demanding immunity:
- Claims of civilian casualities:
- Complaining about NTC guy for smiling (not sure which one)
Keep in mind the above is just from a week or so, coming from just their Twitter account, alone! The worrying thing is that they are trying to get names of people in Tripoli.I’m very worried for the folks who may have provided them with information.Skimming their tweets lately, they really want someone to get them in contact with the NTC, which can’t be a good thing.I’d encourage people to be very skeptical of this account, and be very very careful about sharing your name or contact information with these people.
