Malta to send technical delegation to Libya next week
Air Malta is making arrangements to send a technical delegation to Tripoli and Benghazi next week to assess the situation at these airports.
The delegation will be meeting the highest authorities of these airports and carrying out audits to assert their operational conditions.
The Air Malta team will include representatives from the airline's commercial, security, ground services, flight operations and engineering sections.
The visit follows a meeting held between Air Malta's chief executive Peter Davies and the Libyan Provisional Government Transport Minister Anwar El Feitori in Malta during the signing of the agreement between Libyan and NATO officials on the establishment of air corridors to be used for civil aircraft.
Air Malta is closely working with the Maltese government and Libyan officials to facilitate travel arrangements and restart flights as soon as possible.
Since it is likely that its first flights will be to Benghazi, Air Malta said it was important to have the visa issuance process from Benghazi facilitated.
This is critical for the feasibility of this route, the airline said.
