As fighting intensified around Sirte, the stream of weary, hungry civilians coming out of the town also increased yesterday.
Most of the civilians now emerging are Gaddafi loyalists who have benefited directly from Gaddafi’s 42 year rule and it is the first time they have met the NTC fighters.
Many of the Gaddafi supporters are resentful at having their “peaceful, comfortable” lives disturbed. Gaddafi poured vast amounts of money into Sirte over the years, turning it from a small fishing village into a substantial town with modern facilities.
