Detailed reports have emerged of the final ignominious and inglorious end to the life of Libya’s dictator.
After removal from the cold store where they had been on “display” to the public until late Monday, the rapidly decomposing bodies of Moammar Gaddafi, his son Mutassim and the former defence minister Abu Bakr Younis Jabr, were taken to a school in Misrata which is being used as a temporary prison.
At the school, 3 detainees, the defence minister’s 2 sons and Gaddafi’s former personal cleric Sheikh Khaled Tantoush, washed the 3 bodies in accordance with Islamic custom, followed by prayers.
Around 20 people were present at the 1.00am ceremony, around half pro-Gaddafi prisoners, including Gaddafi’s cousin (and former internal security minister) Mansour Dhao, and half officials of the Misrata Military Council.

Following this the bodies, now in coffins, were driven to a secret location in the desert. Gaddafi’s cousin and his former driver Hannoush were allowed to accompany the bodies but ordered to keep their heads between their legs so they would not know the route.
To confuse the media a decoy convoy had gone off in the opposite direction.
Upon arrival at the location, at around 5.00am, the coffins were placed in 3 separate graves and the cousin and driver read some readings from the Koran. -- more...
