Libyan fighters have captured former intelligence chief, Abdullah al-Senussi, in the southwestern part of the country, one day after the fugitive son of slain leader Muammar Gadhafi was arrested.
Al-Senussi, who has been intelligence chief until Gadhafi's final days, was arrested in his sister's house near the southwestern city of Sabha, said Abdul Hafiz Ghoga, vice chairman of the ruling National Transitional Council.
Al-Senussi, who was not harmed during his capture, was in custody in Sabha Sunday, added Ghoga, as authorities were discussing how to transport him to Tripoli to stand trial.
Earlier this year the International Criminal Court (ICC) indicted al-Senussi, along with Gadhafi and his son Saif al-Islam, for crimes against humanity after the uprising against Gadhafi began in February.
But Libyan rulers have declared that they want both men to stand trial in Libya.
But Libyan rulers have declared that they want both men to stand trial in Libya.
Earlier on Sunday, the ruling council said it would not hand the 39-year-old Saif al-Islam Gadhafi to the ICC, and that he would be tried in Libya "because his trial at home is a popular demand."
The council promised to ensure he receives a fair trial and good treatment following his arrest in southern Libya on Saturday.
ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo is set to visit Libya this week to discuss the issue.
