ARAB LEAGUE SUSPENDS SYRIA (TEMPORARILY) FROM MEMBERSHIP UNTIL IT IMPLEMENTS AGREEMENT:

TIMELINE – 12th November 2011 UPDATED 16.49 GMT:
According to latest reports from Cairo the Arab League today suspended Syria from membership. 
However, it is not a permanent supension, but one which will be implemented until Syria complies with the agreement already in place i.e. that it withdraws its troops from the towns and cities, releases political prisoners and allows independent media representatives into the country.

In a statement, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem al-Thani, the Qatari Prime Minister, said the League will “suspend Syrian delegations’ activities in Arab League meetings” and implement “economic and political sanctions against the Syrian government”.
The Arab League also called for its member nations to withdraw their ambassadors from Damascus and threatened to recognise the Opposition Syrian National Council unless the Assad Government stops the “continued killing” of its citizens.
