In a dangerous escalation of sectarian violence in Bahrain yesterday, following injuries to 7 policemen in an explosion the night before, pro – government supporters over-turned and destroyed 2 cars and vigilante groups threatened further action.
Vigilante Group Attack Opposition Cars
A demonstration by pro-government supporters near the Alba roundabout in Riffa turned nasty last night when the 2 cars were attacked, one for reportedly honking the “Down, Down Hamad” theme and another for displaying a portrait of the King up-side down.
There is no information at present on what happened to the occupants.
The report on the Ministry of Interior website , failed to call the Government supporters, “thugs”, “vandals” or “terrorists”, terms it usually uses for participants in similar actions when they are perpetrated by members of the opposition Shia community, though it did add “one of two cars damaged by vandals” to the picture title. The Gulf Daily News so far does not report the incident at all.
Online Sunni groups claiming to represent people in Riffa, Isa Town, Muharraq, Zallaq and Hamad Town have warned they could take vigilante action against those responsible for attacks on police unless they stop within 24 hours.
2nd Car Destroyed at Alba Roundabout
The same group of Government supporters also attacked a 24-hour supermarket near the Alba roundabout and another group tried to go to the village of Nuwaidrat, but were prevented from doing so by police.
Eventually the crowd were dispersed by the police firing tear gas. Police claim that they have taken away the supermarket video recordings to “identify those behind the acts for legal procedures”. A video of the whole car damaging incident can be seen, HERE:

However, the impartiality of Bahrain’s police, MOI and judiciary remain in question. 5 young people from Eker village have already been arrested for allegedly being “responsible” for the “bomb explosion” there less than 48 hours ago.
