Assad was silent Thursday in the aftermath of the attack that killed three of his closest associates and brother in law Assef Shawkat.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was silent Thursday in the aftermath of the attack that killed three of his closest associates, including his brother in law Assef Shawkat.
The head of state, which occurs rarely, has not done so far reporting or public appearance.
The official media have not released images of the attack, as they do every time after attacks in Damascus. The Wednesday attack was claimed by the Syrian Army free (ASL).
According to official media, Assad issued a decree Wednesday under which he appointed General Fahd al-Freij new defense minister to replace Rajha Daoud, killed in the attack that occurred in the building of national security in Damascus.
Since the beginning of the revolt in March 2011, he delivered six speeches and gave few interviews and Syrian television channels and foreign newspapers.
The last speech of the president goes back to June 2, during which he assured will end the revolt which he likens to "terrorism".
