Public Policy Poll: Romney Edges Ahead of Obama in Wisconsin

Updated: Aug 21, 2012 12:28 PM EDTWisconsin -
The newest survey from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney ahead of President Barack Obama in Wisconsin, 48 to 47 percent.

That is a 7 point difference from PPP's last poll in Wisconsin in July.  That survey saw the President with the advantage 50-44 percent.
This is the PPP's first Presidential poll since Romney named Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate.
The PPP says the Ryan selection has unified Republicans in the state.  Romney has gone up from a 78 point lead with Republicans to an 88 point lead.  It's also tightened the race among independents.  Democrats remained unchanged.
Wisconsin is considered a battleground state ahead of the November election.  President Obama easily took Wisconsin over Republican John McCain in 2008, but some experts believe a an energized Republican-base could swing the state from blue to red this year.
Marquette University is expected to release results from its latest poll Wednesday.
