Obama’s Arab Spring Loses its Veil

Posted by FactReal on September 17, 2012
THE MYTH OF THE “ARAB SPRING” IS EVAPORATING
What we are seeing in the Middle East is not the rise of democracy that Obama promised.
Last week, Islamists attacked our embassies in Egypt and Libya on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, and murdered our ambassador and embassy staff. After receiving messages of apology andappeasement from the Obama administration, the Islamic hate-machine went into overdrive. They are now destroying U.S. interestsburning Obama in effigykilling our troopsscreaming “Death to America!” across the Middle East, North Africa, London, Australia, etc.
Obama considers this an achievement?
Apparently word had been out for months that the most extreme of the anti-Qaddafi rebels were working with al Qaeda for 9/11. The State Department and the Defense Department had done nothing meaningful to protect the Ambassador. When the killers attacked the U.S. compound, they were heavily armed with anti-aircraft automatic cannon (a very deadly weapon) and RPG’s. They were a recognizably violent group connected with al Qaeda. It’s amazing that Qaddafi kept saying that the people fighting against him were al Qaeda and we kept helping them — and sure enough, they turned out to be al Qaeda. And Qaddafi, who had become our friend — although a cruel and vile man — was killed by the rebels so now Libya is in large measure in the hands of al Qaeda.
Same with Egypt. Mubarak was no one’s idea of a great guy, but he was our pal. He kept the peace with Israel. He suppressed the terrorists. So, naturally, we stabbed him in the back. Now, we have worked to create an “Arab Spring” that has given us a fantastically more anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-al Qaeda Middle East.
But incredibly, Mr. Obama considers this an achievement. An achievement? To help al Qaeda and its pals, the Muslim Brotherhood, take power in the most populous Arab state? To help al Qaeda take over in oil rich Libya?…
Barack Obama, determined to become the Muslim world’s best friend, has instead unleashed the dogs of war in the Middle East. He has actively backed the overthrow of various governments in the vain and naïve hope that the extreme radical element of Islam would not step into the resultant leadership vacuum. He has essentially told Iran, that they are free to develop nuclear weapons and to meddle in the affairs of Lebanon, Syria and whatever country they choose with no consequences. He has given Hamas and the Palestinian Authority a green light to confront Israel, as U.S. policy is now to browbeat and intimidate the Israelis to accept any agreement while demanding their acquiescence to Iranian nuclear capability. He has willfully created a power and influence void into which Russia has now stepped.
Barack Obama has signaled, by his numerous apologies and adolescent groveling, that the United States is no longer engaged and is willing to be deferential to all the nations of the region regardless of their potential threat to America or the West, including Israel now essentially isolated and alone.
In his Cairo speech in 2009, Obama shamelessly blamed the West for all the problems with Islam and never once used the words; terrorism, terrorist, war on terror or radical Islam. Earlier in the same year he met secretly with the Muslim Brotherhood, the progenitor of Hamas and Al Qaeda, thus legitimizing them with a wink and a nod.
Obama and his media allies have a storyline they want to impose on the Middle East…The Middle Eastern fable is the tale of a compassionate Islam-friendly Lightworker who ushered in a new era of peace with a lovely speech in Cairo, in which he proved very willing to accept Islamist critiques of his own country…Obama promised a restoration of America’s standing across a world alienated by arrogant shoot-from-the-hip jingoistic cowboy leadership, and the American press was eager to write stories about his fulfillment of those promises.
Instead, we’re watching a familiar story play out, direct from the darkest hours of 1979: a lack of American resolve and leadership leading to the widespread perception of weakness, which the organizers of these “spontaneous” protests are happy to exploit…they think they can bully the Administration into suppressing speech they find blasphemous. They’ve already heard concessions to their point of view from this White House and State Department. They have every reason to push even harder.
…Barack Obama’s negligent fantasy of high-tech young democracy enthusiasts who can be jollied into American-style constitutional republics with a couple of high-profile speeches is dangerously unsuited to dealing with this world.
Almost a week after the brutal murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, this Administration still can’t see what is actually happening on the ground across the Middle East. It still thinks reality can be shaped to conform to its preferred narratives, or at least hidden behind them for a couple more months. Obama and his people keep telling themselves this is all about a movie…
