In the past two weeks, Dustin has been lucky enough to have been seen by both Johns Hopkins and Duke University Medical Center. They also visited Geisinger for an independent opinion. Hopkins offered the more conservative approach of chemotherapy and radiation alone. Duke’s Neurosurgeon-in-Chief, Dr. Allan H. Friedman, has agreed to do the surgery. Dr. Friedman is one of the most well respected neurosurgeons in the world. Resection surgery is more risky, but it will give him a better outcome. After many discussions with family, friends, and independent doctors, as well as prayer, Dustin has decided to go forward with the surgery at Duke.

The surgery is scheduled for January 2nd in Durham, NC. They would like him to remain in the area for at least a few weeks to keep an eye on him and for follow up appointments. We will not know the scope of treatment following the surgery because there are so many unknowns, and the treatment will depend on the outcome of the surgery. Please keep Dustin in your prayers over this holiday season as he prepares for the next leg of his journey.
