In this episode of the Def 6 Coffee Break, Frank Radice interviews Michael Barrett, Definition 6’s multi-Emmy award-winning Senior Audio Engineer in New York. You’ll learn about how:
  • It’s not just audio engineers who can benefit from music composition skills. For an editor, explains Barrett, “having a musical background, having a music ear fuels the ability to be able to cut stuff on the right beat and feel the flow of the spot.” It allows editors to “feel into the musicality and the rhythm of the spot.”
  • How Barrett can often be found in the Definition 6 kitchen, repurposing the tools on hand to make sound effects.
This summer, Barrett received two Daytime Emmy awards for “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing – Live Action” and “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action” for work on Sesame Street. This is the third consecutive year Barrett has won Emmy awards for a total of five received for his work on Sesame Street. See more of Michael Barrett’s work.
In total, Definition 6 received three statuettes at the 41st Daytime Emmy Awards for work on the PBS show Sesame Street, bringing the combined total to 16 Emmys awarded to Definition 6 for work on Sesame Street.
