New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is beginning her career in Congress by voting against the first major piece of legislation brought forward by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the likely next House Speaker.
The 29-year-old socialist took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that she will oppose the House rules package Democrats’ will present when they take control of the lower chamber on Thursday.
“Tomorrow I will also vote No on the rules package, which is trying to slip in #PAYGO. PAYGO isn’t only bad economics, as @RoKhanna explains; it’s also a dark political maneuver designed to hamstring progress on healthcare+other leg. We shouldn’t hinder ourselves from the start,” she wrote.

I will be voting NO on the Rules package with #PayGo. It is terrible economics. The austerians were wrong about the Great Recession and Great Depression.
