Government forces quit center of east Libya town: rebels

(Reuters) - Forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi withdrew from the residential area in the center of Ras Lanuf in eastern Libya Friday after fierce fighting, rebel fighters told Reuters. "There has been intense fighting with Gaddafi's forces. They have withdrawn from the residential area to the west. We are now combing the area," said rebel fighter Mohammed Aboul Hassan, speaking by telephone from the town.
