Due to submarines' limitations for firing torpedoes, "we have decided to equip our submarines with missile-launching systems, which of course needs a highly complicated technology and know-how," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Rear Admiral Farhad Amiri told FNA.
"To fire a missile from a submarine, the target and missile-launch specifications should be sent to the submarine very fast, and this communication technology is currently being developed," he added.
Amiri expressed the hope that Navy experts will accomplish the project and equip submarines and other Iranian subsurface vessels with missile launchers within the next two years.
The Iranian Army plans to increase the range of its home-made Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and also equip its reconnaissance drones with missile-launching systems, an Iranian commander said on Sunday.CHALLAH @ Fars News
Speaking to FNA, Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army's Self-Sufficiency Jihad Rear Admiral Farhad Amiri referred to Iran's capability in designing and building different types of drones, and explained that UAVs are usually used for collecting intelligence and information, wiretapping, photography and shooting footage, but they can also be used for other purposes on the basis of their power and capabilities.
"For example, in naval missions we need long-range UAVs or we need the drones which have the capability to launch missiles, each of which needs its own special technology," he added.
"Of course, all these (projects) are on our working agenda in a move to satisfy our needs during the next two years," Amiri underlined.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force has equipped all its F-14 fighter jets with highly advanced radars, Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Rear Admiral Farhad Amiri announced on Sunday.
"The radar system of these fighters are highly complicated because it consists of a set of separated parts which should be linked to each other when they are mounted on the fighter jet, and this is a very complex scientific and technological process," Amiri told FNA.
"Our radars used to be mainly American and British in the past and these were the Americans and the British who determined the place for mounting our radar systems and they were, thus, fully informed of their blind spots," he said.
"But today that we produce all our radar systems domestically, we ourselves specify the place where these systems should be mounted and installed," the senior Army official said, and added, "And we cover the blind spots with other systems."
Iranian officials have announced that the country has now reached self-sufficiency in producing radar systems in different frequencies and for various ranges.
