3 hours 11 min ago - #Libya The African Union's panel on Libya will meet Wednesday in Pretoria to discuss the latest developments in the north African state, a South African official said.
"The committee, which consists of the heads of state of five countries, will meet in Pretoria to discuss a range of issues concerning Libya," said Bongani Majola, a spokesman for President Jacob Zuma.
The committee also includes leaders of Uganda, Mauritania, Mali and Congo-Brazzaville.
The African Union has sought in vain to mediate between Libya's ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi and the rebels who have rejected the continental bloc's proposals.
South Africa has not recognised the National Transitional Council, which now controls most of Libya's territory.
South Africa voted for the UN resolution authorising the air campaign in Libya, but has since lashed out at the NATO-led bombing, saying the no-fly zone was being used to overthrow the long ruling Gaddafi.
Many AU members were allied to Gaddafi's regime, and slammed the NATO's involvement in the oil rich-state, arguing that African problems should have African solutions. - AFP
