Anti-Gaddafi forces push into Sirte  
Fighters loyal to the interim National Transitional Council (NTC) have reached the outskirts of Sirte from three fronts, the military said, in a massive assault on Muammar Gaddafi's hometown and last strongholds.

"The fighters entered the Sirte area on Thursday but did not reach the city," Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid reported from Ajdabiya "They pushed from the west to al-Gharbiyat bridge and then retreated to Wadi Jarif, a valley about 36km away from the city centreThere is a growing concern about the fate of civilians," our correspondent said, referring to the continuing crackdown by Gaddafi loyalists on the rest of the population.
