CAIRO, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Fighters loyal to Libya's interim government controlled the eastern portion of Sirte, the hometown of deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi and one of the last bastions supporting him, Al-Jazeera TV reported on Tuesday.
"The Libyan rebels controlled the eastern portion after tough fighting," the channel said.
Sirte has been encircled by forces of the interim government and under bombardment from NATO warplanes. (Reporting by Yasmine Saleh)
