Dubai-based Al Alaan TV channel has released an amateur footage claiming it shows the funeral ceremony of Colonel Gaddafi, his son Mutassim and his defense minister Abu Bakr Yunis moments before they were buried at a secret location in the Libyan desert, near Misrata.
The grainy, cell-phone video shows three open wooden coffins reportedly containing the bodies of the former leader, his son and his minister, while a cleric, believed to be Gaddafi's own Khaled Tantoush, recites the ritual Islamic funeral prayer of Salat al-Janazah. The ceremony is attended by a small crowd of onlookers.
Reportedly, two Gaddafi’s cousins, Mansour Dhao Ibrahim, the former leader of the People's Guard, and Ahmed Ibrahim, who were captured while attempting to escape Sirte, were also allowed to attend the ceremony.
Libya’s National Transitional Council insisted that Gaddafi be buried at a secret location, explaining otherwise his grave might become a shrine for his supporters, or it could have been vandalized by his opponents. The members of the Libya’s NTC, who attended the funeral, swore on Koran they would never reveal its location.
However, the NTC said international organizations requesting to see it would still be granted access to the Gaddafi’s secret grave.
