Ian Martin, the UN Secretary General’s special envoy to Libya, yesterday expressed concern over the number of unsecured weapon stores in the country.
“Much has already gone missing,” from unguarded sites he said in an interview.  Acknowledging that it was difficult to monitor Libya’s long desert borders, he stressed that it was now important to “secure what remains”.

Of “very,very serious cause for concern,” was, he added, the large amount of missing shoulder held missile launchers, mines and ammunition.
Better progress had been made on chemical weapons. All known stockpiles had been secured, including 7,000 drums of raw uranium. The problem now was how to safely dispose of it.
