Alex Grossman  -  +Robert Mosko Russia these days has few allies outside of its immediate sphere of influence, it's near-abroad as they put it. Syria is one of the only states that is still allied with them, that purchases weapons from them, etc. They are afraid to lose influence and thus oppose UNSC action. I think it's as simple as that.
