On Thursday, MSNBC host Andrea Mitchelltackled the recent interview what PresidentBarack Obama gave to Rolling Stone magazine in which he called Gov. Mitt Romney a “bullshitter.” Mitchell described Obama using that term to describe his opponent as “unvarnished.” MSNBC guest and Democratic strategistCatherine “Kiki” McLean said Obama was displaying his “humor” and “affection for kids.”
When a Rolling Stone reporter said that his young child had asked him to tell the president that she supported him, Obama replied that kids have good instincts and are solid judges of character. “‘They look at the other guy and say, “Well, that’s a bullshitter, I can tell,’” Obama said, referring to Romney.
“I don’t know how this plays, but it seem that this is the president unvarnished,” said Mitchell of that comment.
“That is a moment of the president showing his humor and his affection for kids,” said McLean. “That’s a great moment.”
Mitchell introduced Rock Center host Brian Williams, who is conducting a two-day interview with the president. Mitchell asked him about Obama’s comments, saying that in a heated campaign “rivals of course feel some friction, but that doesn’t really obtain to a personal animus.”
Williams replied that Obama regularly calls Romney a “pitch man” with some measure of derision.
