Braves’ Brian McCann faces rehab setback
Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann has been rehabbing since undergoing shoulder surgery. This recovery process was halted earlier in the week when McCann had to be examined because of wrist tenderness, according to Ray Glier of MLB.com.
McCann was rehabbing in Orlando, but he returned to Atlanta to have his wrist examined recently after he experienced discomfort. The new injury is unrelated to the backstop’s ailing shoulder, and the Braves are not yet sure what it means for McCann’s projected return date.
Previously, the Braves had been tentatively targeting a May 1 return for McCann. He was approaching the point of resuming catching and throwing, but with his wrist injury it’s not clear when he’ll get back behind the plate.
After being one of the best young catchers in the majors over the first several seasons of his career, McCann experienced a significant drop off in production last year. He’s hoping to return sooner than later and put the 2012 campaign behind him.
