SAN FRANCISCO (Politically Illustrated) – Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi rejected an offer by rebels to flee the nation and have his forces quit cities now under government control in exchange for a cease-fire.
“The rebels cleverly offered him a deal,” Maria Dzidina, a foreign affairs analyst for a leading political website, told Politically Illustrated. “He didn’t accept it, so the war continues.” On Friday, Mr. Gaddafi’s forces used heavy artillery to bombard cities under rebel rule in a random and very intense incident, according to sources on the ground.
Rebels told reporters the bombardment killed countless civilians, which Mr. Gaddafi is blaming the United States for the loss of life.“He’s attacking random people to make the citizens fear the United States,” said Mrs. Dzidina. “It’s made in the U.S.A.” The attack comes after Mr. Gaddafi sent a special envoy to Britain for negotiations on Thursday.
The U.S. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates told Congress he was opposed to using ground troops in Libya.
“What the opposition needs as much as anything right now is some training, some command and control and some organization,” Mr. Gates told  Congress. What will Mr. Gaddafi’s forces do in the meantime? “He’s pillaging the cities, destroying shops and lives.”
