BENGHAZI, Libya, May 2, 2011 (AFP) -Libya's rebels on Monday welcomed the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and said it would be a great "gift" if the United States now killed Libyan strongman Moamer Kadhafi.
"A big part of international terrorism has now ended" with bin Laden's death at the hands of US special forces, said Ahmed Omar Bani, military spokesman for the rebel Transitional National Council in the eastern city of Benghazi.
"It would be a great gift if the US killed Kadhafi," he added.
Bin Laden was killed on Sunday in a raid by US covert forces in Pakistan, triggering celebrations across the United States a decade after the September 11, 2001 attacks levelled the World Trade Centre in New York and damaged the Pentagon.
