Rebels took control this week of areas to the west and south of Misurata.

Rebels Gain Ground in Misurata  Rebels took control this week of areas to the west and south of Misurata.

PORT The port hasn’t been shelled since at least Saturday. A Red Cross ship with medical supplies
docked Monday — the first aid ship to reach the port in days.
SOUTHEAST Rebels say they control an area of swamps and dunes southeast of the city, blocking
Qaddafi forces from reaching the port from that direction. Rebels also claim to control a section of the
coastal highway.

AD DAFNIYAH On Monday, the rebels reached an area just short of this town. In Qaryat az Zurayq there were
signs that Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s forces fled in disarray, leaving behind uniforms, food and bodies.
TRIPOLI STREET According to a rebel spokesman, the city center hasn’t been shelled for more than a week.
Tripoli Street was the scene of fierce block-by-block battles until rebels repelled Qaddafi forces in late April.
AIRPORT AREA Rebel fighters took the airport Wednesday. That night they said they controlled the Military
Academy, from which Qaddafi forces had been shelling the city
