* NATO's chief said on Thursday it was up to Libyan insurgents to fight Gaddafi's forces on the ground and dismissed warnings of "mission creep," but a rebel leader said they needed more arms to finish the job.
* NATO said it conducted 140 air sorties on Thursday, 42 of them strike sorties that aim to identify and hit targets but do not always deploy munitions.
* NATO said key targets hit on Thursday included:
-- Two command-and-control facilities in the vicinity of Brega
-- Two armed trucks in the vicinity of Misrata
-- One military facility and one radar in the vicinity of Tripoli
-- One military facility in the vicinity of Gharyan
-- One military store in Waddan
-- Two multiple rocket launchers in the vicinity of Bir Al Ghanam
* Since NATO took over command of air strikes on March 31, its aircraft have conducted 13,324 sorties, including 5,005 strike sorties. NATO members participating in air strikes in Libya include France, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Italy and the United States.
* Seventeen ships under NATO command are patrolling the central Mediterranean Sea to enforce a U.N. arms embargo. On Thursday, eight vessels were hailed to determine destination and cargo. Three were boarded but none was diverted.
A total of 1,576 vessels have been hailed, 135 boarded and eight diverted since the start of the arms embargo.
