Syrian President Bashar al-Assad signed a decree introducing the multiparty system. Thus, the head of state has met the main requirement of the opposition calling for political reforms, said the agency Sana.On 24 July the decree was approved by the government. It prohibits parties based on religious criteria, or tribal professionals and promoting racial and other discrimination. Parties should not have armed groups or secret services. Since 1963 the political monopoly in Syria, was detained by the Baath Party.
