I did some follow-up work and yes indeed it appears that many popular Web sites and services--mostly those having to do with talking to the outside world--are now actively being blocked in Iran. As I point out, though, China, Iran, Syria, etc. aren't the only ones working on censoring the Internet.
Following in the footsteps of the former governments of Egypt and Libya, Iran is cutting its people off from the Internet.
