Predicting 2012...with science: Michio Kaku on what to look out for in the new year
The world could end about a year from now on December 21, 2012...if the Mayan calendar is correct, that is. We here at American Morning aren't going to rely on some primitive astronomy.

If you want to make decisions based off what could actually happen next year -- listen to Michio Kaku, a child prodigy who's become one of the greatest minds of our time. He's a top physicist at City University of New York who has picked up where Albert Einstein left off.

Kaku wrote the book "Physics of the Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny and Our Daily Lives by the Year 2100" and in the book he talks to hundreds of other scientists to piece together what our life will look like in the next century.

This morning on American Morning, Kaku joins Ali Velshi to share with us with a glimpse at what's possible in 2012.

  • One can only estimate the future, but cannot predict it precisely since the future is the outcome of our actions.
  • lol some people are angry because Kaku was intelligent enough to debunk the doomsday bullshit using science.

  • someone gotta make a movie on this guy... and a year later , few sequels and in the end a prequel too ;-)
  • i would do anything to spend one day with Michio Kaku(learn as much as i can in 24 hours)
  • Nope , if you wish for me argue it would cost you 1£ for the minute and £5 for the half hour..hehe ((^_^)) (extract from monty python) . I read and understood you well and it has made me think as well :-) providing a larger picture with more logic :-) Namaste
  • Thank you for not taking that as an argument but something of my thoughts. Most would argue when I'm just stating what I think lol.
  • hmm interesting comment, Thanks for sharing and updating with your thoughts :-)
  • I can say yes and no to your statement. Yes one can only estimate the future. But on the flip side of that the future of our life is the outcome of our actions not the world or the sun being the case with the solar flare. I am not one who believes that the worlds going to end in 2012. But being someone from an IT electronic background and seen the research on the sun and the solar flares do believe in that flare that will knock out communications which could mean the outcome of our actions after
  • We've created our own "Doomsday Cycle". It occurs every 4 years..... in early November.
George Bush was our latest "Dangerous Event". :-/
  • Québec!
  • The doomsday is false because of leap years. The Mayan calendar wasn't accurate because it didn't included leap year. If the doom day of Earth would be predicted by the Mayan calendar then the doom day would've come months ago. That's what my Geography Teacher's intern told me.

And 10 percent say it will happen this year - in line with Mayan calendar predictions. The calendar stops at the end of 2012, and believers have taken that as a signal for Armageddon. Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters, ...
