Michele Bachmann: ACA is ‘wildly unpopular’

Rep. Michele Bachmann said Monday that she’s “hopeful” that the Supreme Court will repeal Affordable Care Act, calling it the most unpopular law in recent history.
“We’re all hopeful of course that there will be a full scale repeal of Obamacare,” the Minnesota Republican said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “This is a highly unpopular law — probably no other law in recent memory has been as unpopular as the president’s health care plan. And I think it’s quite simply because people realize government calls all of the shots and the people pay all of the bills and people reflexively don’t want politicians making their health care decisions for them.”

The Supreme Court is expected to announce its ruling on the constitutionality of the health care law this week.
A recent poll found that 47 percent of Americans are opposed to the Affordable Care Act, but some three-fourths said they want lawmakers and Obama to work on a new reform bill should the high court strike down the law. Polls have also consistently found that some parts of the law, including coverage for pre-existing conditions and young adult coverage, are nonetheless popular.Bachmann — who as a presidential candidate had vowed to repeal the president’s signature first-term accomplishment — added, “People want to make their own health care decisions together with their doctors and I think that’s something we can all embrace.”
Asked Monday whether she worries the Obama campaign would leverage an unfavorable ruling, Bachmann said that most Americans — including the president himself — understand just how widely unpopular the health care law is.
“We haven’t heard the president even talking about his signature piece of legislation during his presidency,” she said. “There are so many negative ramifications that have already occurred… It’s so wildly unpopular and why I think you see the president not wanting to talk about his health care plan.”
