I don't know +Euro Maestro, it seems like Assad and his supporters have dug a big hole for themselves, and maybe it's already too late for them. What worries me is that this started as a protest movement that could have toppled the government if it had continued, just like in Egypt, but instead of showing restraint, both sides were too quick to start shooting bullets. That doesn't bode well for peace negotiations.
